Jakarta – Bali 2013: day 11

Note: at the beginning of July 2013, I went for a holiday with my parents, brother and sister. We braved Asia for the first time, explored but did it all in -more or less- style. The age of the group varied between 48 and 17.

Candidasa – Padangbay – Gili Air Island

Ever had that feeling that you’ve just stepped into a postcard? Imagine white beaches, blue, clear water and a similar sky, lots of palm trees and a beautiful pool. That’s where we are right now. But we fought a long battle to get here, so we thoroughly deserve these two days of R&R. So there.

This morning, we all woke up in time and were ready to leave. Unfortunately, we didn’t have our usual guide to pick us up and deposit us at the boat (located in Padangbay), which meant we had to wait until a local van arrived to pick us up. But the local van arrived a bit later than we had thought, which meant much more stress than we had hoped. The van arrived, we loaded all the luggage and ourselves into the van and set off for the speed boat. Once we arrived and got our tickets, the waiting started. Luckily, the boat left about half an hour after our arrival, so the waiting didn’t take too long. But the boat trip itself took a very long time. And not all of us handled the sea all that well (a.k.a. me and some others).

But the trip was well worth the effort: a very nice hotel, the aforementioned gorgeous pool, beds that made us long to fall asleep. Alright, there was some rain and the sun apparently shone a lot today which meant the occasional sunstroke, but all in all? We’re happy.

Tomorrow: sleeping, swimming, walking around and deciding whether we want to go snorkeling or perform yoga. Choices, choices.
